Street sign fabrication, installation, and maintenance are also handled by the Streets Division.
Some of the responsibilities of the Streets Division include:
- Curb Drain Cleaning

- Signage Fabrication and Maintenance
- Street Maintenance

Road Maintenance
The Streets Division maintains approximately seventy miles of roadway and four miles of alleys. This work includes street sweeping, pothole patching, crack filling, minor street repairs, grading of alleys, snow and ice control, and graffiti removal.
Street Sweeping
Villa Park is divided into eight sections for street sweeping purposes. Typically, staff members are able to sweep two sections per week - the entire village once per month - depending on the weather and the amount of leaves on the ground. Eight sections are swept in numerical order before the cycle repeats, starting back at section one. To see the eight-section street sweeping map, click here. Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street Sweeping Street sweeping begins in the spring after the last frost of the season, and ends in the fall just before the first. Please keep in mind that all street sweeping activities are heavily dependent on current weather conditions.
Snow and Ice Removal
Public Works is responsible for snow and ice removal within Village limits except North Avenue, Roosevelt Road, IL. Route 83, and Villa Avenue north of North Avenue. Snow plowing begins after the accumulation of two inches of snow. No parking on any streets designated as snow routes until snow has been removed from those streets. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing. Please note that Public Works does not routinely salt secondary streets unless warranted due to icy conditions.
Damaged Mailbox Reimbursement Policy
Because many postboxes do not meet minimum standards, property owners will not be reimbursed for a postbox damaged during snow removal operations if the postbox does not meet the standards outlined in this policy. The Postmaster has indicated in the U.S. Post Office Handbook, Section 151.523 “Post and Supports”, that posts and other supports must be neat and of adequate strength and size. This article is vague at best, but the Village’s interpretations are that the postbox must be built in a manner that will withstand normal environmental conditions. We have included a drawing prepared by the Postal Service suggesting the proper type of installation where snow removal is a problem. Size and setback dimensions are not specified. The Village of Villa Park will reserve the right to create and enforce standards for which it will deem a damaged mailbox compensable.
- The anchor post must have a minimum strength equivalent to a 4” x 4” wolmanized post, be anchored at least 24” below ground and be set at least 36” behind the back of the curb (or the edge of the pavement if no curb is present).
- The arm should be of the same strength as the anchor post and should not be any closer than 12” behind the back of the curb. This should be mounted with screws or 16 penny nails.
- The postbox should be mounted securely on the arm and should not be any closer than 12” behind the back of the curb.
If the postbox is damaged by snow removal operations and meets these minimum standards as verified by the Public Works Department, the Village will reimburse the property owners’ expenses to repair or replace the postbox, up to a maximum of $75.00 (seventy-five dollars) when the property owner presents proof of their expenses. Labor is not reimbursable.
