I moved to Villa Park in 1994 with my mom and grew up on North Michigan Ave. In grade school, I played basketball for the Jefferson Wildcats and while in high school, I played football for the Willowbrook Warriors.
I was very active growing up and I found myself involved in many activities. I spent a lot of time playing basketball at Lions Park and soccer at the Iowa Community Center as a part of the Villa Park Youth Soccer League. At a young age, I began to learn the meaning of hard work and responsibility as a lifeguard at both Lufkin and Jefferson Pools. This experience served as one of the reasons I continued to love the water and pursued a career in the United States Coast Guard.
I served for ten years in the United States Coast Guard and had the opportunity to travel around the world. I was a first responder to the Gulf Coast in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
I was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom and in 2009. I was a part of President Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration. Additionally, as a member of our Honor Guard Unit I had many opportunities to represent the Coast Guard at different sporting events and venues. Many people do not realize that the United States Coast Guard is a very active branch of our armed forces and I am very proud to call myself a veteran.
After my enlistment in the Coast Guard, my wife April and I bought our first home on South Euclid Avenue. We now have three children--Ben, Max, and Grant; all of our children attend school in District 48 and are enjoying many of the same programs that I did when I was growing up here.
Currently, I am a Correctional Officer for the State of Illinois and I began my Small-Veteran-Owned business called The Drone People, LLC.
I previously served as the Chairman of the Villa Park Fire & Police Commission and Villa Park Cable Commission.
I want to serve the people of Villa Park and be their voice when they need to be heard. I am deeply invested in our community. I grew up here and now my kids have the opportunity to grow up here. This is where we belong.
