A big thank you to all the residents and volunteers who made the Fourth of July parade in Villa Park a success. We had a fantastic turn out with hundreds who marched and thousands who attended. 607 pounds of candy were handed out to those along the route making it a truly sweet day.

For the Love of Ice Cream

July was a month filled with several national days relating to ice cream... and we aren't complaining. Just to name a few, this month saw the celebration of National Strawberry Sundae Day, National Vanilla Ice Cream Day and, of course, the all-encompassing National Ice Cream Day. What better time to enjoy a sweet treat than when the weather is warm (and who knows, maybe we will still celebrate as we head into August?)

Back to School Travel Safety Tips

August is upon us, which means it's almost time for students to head back to school. Always remember the following safety tips when traveling to and from school:

  • Walkers: Always try to walk on the sidewalk; If there is no sidewalk and you must walk in the street, make sure you are walking in the direction where you are facing traffic. Always stop and look both ways before crossing any street.
  • Bike Riders: Always wear a properly fitted helmet. Watch for any opening car doors and other potential hazards.
  • Bus Riders: When the bus approaches, make sure that you are at lined up at least 6 feet away from the curb. Always wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before standing and/or moving throughout. If seat belts are available, buckle up!
  • Drivers: Do not block crosswalks and pay extra attention near crosswalks and school zones. Never pass a bus loading or unloading children.
